Damien Hirst – For The Love of God
The Love Of God ‘a celebration against death’ .
Bought by Hirst in a London taxidermy shop, the skull is a platinum replica of a human skull – thought to be that of a 35-year-old man who lived in Europe during the 18th century. The skull is covered with 8,601 flawless diamonds – three times the number on the crown the Queen wears on state occasions. Even the eye sockets and the holes for the nose have been filled with hundreds of jewels. A 52-carat pear-shaped stone is set into the forehead, surrounded by 14 diamonds.
The work took 18 months to make and the diamonds, worth $24 million, were paid for by Hirst and the gallery. The teeth have been taken from the original, polished, and then reset in the cast. The skull is the most expensive piece of contemporary art ever created.
Hirst has stated that he hopes it “makes the people who see it feel good, that it’s uplifting, that it takes your breath away”. I think the only breath being taken away is from the gasps of viewers when they discover the cost of the sparkly skull. Hirst went on to say, “I wouldn’t mind if it happened to my skull after my death.”.

by John LeKay-
The red skull is made from wax electricity, magnets, a mini computerized system and Swarovski crystals. The testicles made out of wax with half a dozen Swarovski crystals implanted in them. They are made like this for a couple of reasons: for balance and weight.
John LeKay has told The Times that he has been producing jewel-encrusted skulls since 1993, very similar to ones that Damien Hirts does.

Crystal Skull
The crystal skulls actually exist. They are a number of human skull models fashioned from blocks of clear or milky quartz crystal rock, claimed to be pre-Columbian Mesoamerican artifacts by their alleged finders. The skulls are often claimed to exhibit paranormal phenomena by some members of the New Age movement, and have often been portrayed as such in fiction, most notably in the film Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Many crystal skulls are claimed to be pre-Columbian, usually attributed to the Aztec or Mayan civilizations. People who believe in the psychic power of crystal skulls say that the skulls are a center of radiant psychic energy and have the power to increase happiness and improve people’s lives just by being held, handled and spoken with; others have suggested that crystal skulls can be used like crystal balls, to aid divination. Claims of the healing and supernatural powers of crystal skulls have no support in the mainstream scientific community. Some believe that the ancient Crystal Skulls are the computers of the ancients, they contain important information that help humanity to pass through it current series of challenges to take us into a Golden Age. Others say they were a powerful tool for healing the body, mind, and spirit, by ancient civilizations.
